Hi SN,

I'm in my pensive mood again. I miss your sweet voice and your bubbly smiles. How I wish you were here to enjoy our usual silly exchanges of thoughts and laughters!

Several weeks ago, I was coaxed to go for a blind date. I hesitated, I kept on asking myself, 'to go or not to go for it'? On the other hand, I didn't want to disappoint them, for they've been trying their best and it's a noble gesture taken by them to get me out of the doldrum of sadness!

This triggers off a serious of deep thoughts - What's Life? Love? Happiness?

After a long soul-searching journey, I realise that we have only one life, why not we strive hard to live life to the fullest while we are still here. Happiness lies in our hands and we have to make efforts to attain it. It has to be earned. Observing my loving elderly parents caring for each other, it would be great that I can be like them - being able to share that happiness with someone who has a beautiful heart, able to hold hands lovingly and to grow old gracefully together.

To me, 'Love and Happines' is a state of mind that cannot be bought with money, beauty and power. The path to happiness is not laid with roses but filled with challenges and it takes lots of sacrifices, understanding and patience from both parties to overcome it. One cannot take the other party for granted but to be aware of one's sensitivities! Ultimately, when one can feel and attain great peace within yourself, with your partner and family - that's happiness!

I know that it's difficult to find a perfect partner for each other, we need to compromise if we really care for and love each other. I like my partner to be god-faring and caring who is there for each other when the time comes and not someone who takes advantage of each other.

It would be great to have an understanding soulmate who also does not make excessive demands but to give a warm hug and care for each other till our expiry dates!

So, in the search for a soulmate, are we looking for the right person or a balanced relationship where both partners feel comfortable and happy with each other???

Dear Puffy,

Come this September, it would have been 10 years since you made me the happiest boy on earth. I still remember that night so clearly in my head, the elation when you told me you were infatuated with someone, and I think I remember actually leaping for joy when you told me that someone was me a few days later.

It would have been 8 years since my last glimpse of you, praying for you at the Penang airport, then watch as you huddled along with that giant luggage to board your plane to Sydney, teary eyed and all. It would have been my last time holding you. I have not held a girl since then. There are times when I miss it dearly.

Sometimes I wonder how life would be if things turned out differently. If you had stayed back to finish your studies in KL. If you found a proper job together with me. If cancer never happened. Certain questions circle my head. Would we have been married? Would we have a child or two by now? Would you find yourself comfortable serving in ACTS? What would my friends there think of you now? What would my colleagues and students think of you now? I'm sure they would have loved your bubbly personality. I suppose you would even be mentoring younger girls about life. Would I be holding you tight as we fall asleep tonight?

What ifs, could haves, should haves.

By God's will, things didn't happen that way. Come this 3rd anniversary, perhaps I have finally given up on holding onto what I've lost, given up wondering about what I could have had, finally accepting where I am in life as God's sovereign will for me, and trusting God that my best days are still yet to come, just maybe taking a bit of a detour as the Israelites did in entering the promised land while God molds me into the man He wants me to become.

Thanks to the grief, I am gifted with the ability to sense the grief in others. Thanks to the struggle, my faith is strengthened beyond what I could possibly imagine. Thanks to the comfort others have given, I am able to comfort others. Thanks to the loss, I can look forward to what God will do to restore. And thanks to all these trials and tribulations, I have seen and experienced God in ways I never have imagined, and I believe there is a mighty testimony at the end of it to bless and encourage many others of the good things He has done in all the lives you have touched.

Looking at it from God's perspective, it is a victory that your mom is walking closely with the Lord, that your sister has found new friends at her church, and you have given us the opportunity to share something that will last throughout our lifetimes - the memory of having our lives touched and changed by you. God indeed is a good God to turn what was bad for good. Praise be to His name forever and ever.

And so, as I remember this 3rd anniversary, I cherish the moments we have had, but God has told me not to hold on to them too tightly as I have before. He is telling me the wounds are healing, and it is time to be strong and very courageous, a message repeated in church so fervently and frequently I'm really convinced it is God's instruction for me. And come this cycle of 10 years, a number of completion, by faith I believe this is the year He will restore all that I have lost: the ability to love, purpose and direction in life. There is a stirring in my spirit that this is what He is calling me to do, and more importantly, to be.

Who knows, it may be this year I will meet the one God has prepared for me, as I am continually being prepared for her. Praise God.

But as for your loving memory, I will always remember you as the one who brought me to Jesus. I thank you for teaching me to walk in His ways, to be my pillar of faith in my early days as a believer and for being my "Jesus in the skin" for all those years we were together. All these are precious to me as I cherish them, but God has made it clear.

It is time to be strong and very courageous to move on.

Happy 3rd anniversary, Puffy. May you rest in peace in our awesome Father, knowing that we are all doing fine.

Shalom! This is in memory of Shieh Nee, it would be her 27th birthday this year. Did you know she was born on the 100th day of the year? Which happened to be the 10th of April today, 27 years ago. For me, it is a day to be happy but also reflective. It feels like she has gone overseas, but that I can't email or talk on the phone with her. I am still sad that she is no longer with us, but instead of focussing on that, I look to the day I will see her again. How comforting to know that we have this hope, only in Christ =)

There are no words ...what can I say?

At last her sweet soul winged its way

A Visit To The Precious Family Care Centre!!

CKeat and SNee,

For a change, instead of holding a typical christmas gathering, Joanna's cell group(RGBC) decided to visit the Precious Home for the golden citizens on Friday(17.12.2009).

This visit is really an eye-opener, we saw how these golden inmates try to make the best of their lives in their twilight years. Working under financial constraints, Pastor Philip(RGBC - Hokkien session) and his wife, Winny, had to be very very creative in stretching their ringgit to the maximum in order to provide quality life for them. We admire your courage and resilience!

Our cell group contributed in cash and kind when we made the visit. For mum, I have decided to bless them with three long tables, a ceiling fan and an OHP.

Thank you Pastor Philip and Winny for your devotion, may God bless you always!

Speaking The Truth!

I remembered, when I was at the convent school, we were told by the nuns to speak the truth because it's a noble value in life and as children of Christ we are to promote reconciliation, justice, integrity and not judgemental persecution no matter what the scenario is like.

But in life, I find it a big struggle to carry it out because when we do it we face terrible prejudices from people who prefer to hide behind truths. But my conscience prompts me to speak the truth boldly in the face of opposition. So, when I speak up and stand up for truth to nurse a broken heart as part of my healing therapy, I know what I'll be facing and know where I stand. I went ahead because I hold steadfastly to the following principle:

"It's better to declare the truth and be rejected

than to withhold the truth just to be accepted"

(October 10 Sat, Our Daily Bread)

My "Our Daily Bread" readings help me to get a better insight of my predicament - The Old Testament prophets were often sent to preach the truth to stubborn people. "God sent prophets to them, to bring them back to the Lord; and they testified against them, but they would not listen" (2 Chron.24:19). Their message often resulted in persecution and sometimes even death (Heb. 11:32-38). So, telling the truth could be traumatic!

I know now that unbearable pains could lead a person to do silly things and there is no one magic cure for a person in pains. Obviously, such a person needs love and understanding but not alienation. As said by Jean Vanier, "Wounded people who have been broken by suffering and sickness ask for only one thing: a heart that loves and commits itself to them, a heart full of hope for them."

My walk with God is sometimes puncuated with hiccups along the way. I've been hurt by some fellow believers that made me walk away from the church. I understand that Christians are like windows through which Jesus can shine - that their lives may touch and help other lost souls in the world. Sadly to say "tender mercies, kindness, humility.... ' qualities (Col.3:16) that can encourage Christian growth and godly grace are not seen in them!

My spiritual journey may not be a bed of roses, but I will always open my heart to Him. I shall not be distracted from my fellowship with Him because 'Love looks beyond what people are to what they can become.'

I would like to thank my wonderful Christian brothers and sisters who have displayed touching shinning examples. I appreciated them for helping me to 'come back to life'!

Living In a Grateful World

After a nine-month hiatus, I came out from 'hibernation' eventually. During those few months, I went through a very difficult soul-searching journey and the thought of doing silly things did come into play. Thanks to your continuous support, I'm OK now.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank my parents, brothers and sisters, colleagues, students, Pastor Tay and family, Tay Siew Bi, church sisters and brothers, friends, neighbours and especially the Lo's family for being so caring throughout these few months. Your regular smses, calls, emails, devotional materials, love and prayers help me pull through my grief, pains and sadness. Love you all for being so understanding and not emotionally judgemental!

So, from now onwards, I've to wipe out sad old memories, only then I can be freed from past burdens and to enjoy living the present.

It's this lovely poem(a friend printed this for me and I've no idea who wrote this poem) that finally rings a bell, wakes me up and to tell myself that I'm going to start a new beautiful life. A new life that is as beautiful as the lovely lotus flower which is able to blossom gracefully despite the murky waters!

I would like to share one of the email messages that touches my heart.

Here goes the story,

It was a busy morning, about 8:30am, when an elderly gentleman in his 80's, arrived to have stitches removed from his thumb. He said he was in a hurry as he had an appointment at 9:00 am.

I had him take a seat, and I saw him looking at his watch. After the examination, I got the needed supplies to remove his sutures and redress his wound. While taking care of his wound, I asked him if he had another doctor's appointment this morning, as he was in such a hurry.

The gentleman told me no, that he needed to go to the nursing home to eat breakfast with his wife. Then I inquired as to her health.

He told me that she had been there for a while and that she was a victim of Alzheimer's Disease.

As we talked, I asked if she would be upset if he was a bit late. He replied that she no longer knew who he was, that she had not recognized him in five years now.

I was surprised, and asked him, 'And you still go every morning, even though she doesn't know who you are?'

He smiled as he patted my hand and said, 'She doesn't know me, but I still know who she is!'

I thought to myself, 'That is the kind of love I want in my life!'

I learn that the physical and romantic attractions not to be the be all and end all in true love. True love is an acceptance of all that is, has been, will be, and will not be!

The happiest people do not necessarily have the best of everything; they just make the best of everything they have!

This is our favourite family car and we really enjoyed having regular 'cruise' in it!

We really love the car, but alas! I had to let it go with a heavy heart.

Now that I'm alone, this car is too big and not practical for me to run daily errands in town.

Moreover, it drinks petrol heavily plus its maintenance cost is really exorbitant!

Taking care of three 'elderly' cars is a big challenge to our family budget,

so I had to downsize the 'fleet of antique cars'(one of them is already 29 years old)!

We are so blessed to have found a new owner for your 'pet' car!

Mum has volunteered to help out in the weekly English class which is specially arranged for them. They are excited and show enthusiasm in their English lessons.

When we organised a christmas party for them, the response was overwhelming as about 171 of them turned up for the celebration! They presented several items and enjoyed themselves very much.

Celebrating My First Christmas With Reservoir Garden Baptist Church(RGBC) PENANG Family!

You've always wanted mum to know the Lord and I didn't take it seriously until now. This year, I took a brave move by stepping into a religious church (RGBC) and following its activities for a month. RGBC is like a home church to the community in Reservoir Garden.

I learn to look at things from new perspectives and really understand the 'pulse' of church activities. When I look at how the well-mannered youths sacrificing their time to serve the church (serving food to the golden citizens during the CCF Community Christmas Party, practising hard for the Christmas dance, carolling from house to house etc), I understand now why and how you spent so much time in a real life church! Memories of you came back whenever I watched them dancing away! They reminded me of you - full of zest for life!

Christmas for this year means a lot to me! The church members spread their love abroad to touch our hearts and we are just like one big happy family enlightening lives!

Children VBS 'POWER-LAB' at Reservoir Garden Baptist Church(RGBC) Penang

Recently, a children's camp was held at the religious church -RGBC Penang from 25-29 Nov 2008. Mum volunteered to help out at the camp. Since I was on duty at cinema science station most of the time, I couldn't cover the children's activities at the other stations(craftworks, games and drama). So, my coverage of the camp was confined to the cinema science station(simple experiments were conducted and the children were treated to a cinema show entitled 'Cheddar's Science Adventure') and the santuary only. The 5-day event was indeed very exciting and meaningful to the children - the church is just like a happy 'home' to them!

Last week I attended my first cell group meeting with several RGBC sisters and brothers. They are lovely Christians who made laugh a lot and feel at home. They were by my side to guide me through my spiritual journey! Now, slowly I am discovering the meanings of walking the 'walk with God!' and talking the 'talk with God!' I'm beginning to experience 'the walk' and 'the talk' that you went through with God all these years!

Half-way through one of the worship sessions, I had this urgent nature call. When I entered the 'water closet' I was surprised to see a toilet bowl with so many buttons located on one side of it!

I was told that this is the 'hi-tech' 3-in-1 toilet system that can pamper your bottom....U jusssst... priak!priak!priak!...sit back and let the system not only flush but to wash and then dry your bottom as well....yes, your bottom! Drying here means that your bottom is air-dried(warm) by the toilet itself! So, you don't have to do much after doing your 'business'! Flush-Wash-Dry so 3-in-1 toilet!!! Later, I was informed that this system is rented for only RM75 monthly. Wow, what an expensive way to wait on our bottom!

Since this was my first encounter with a 'hi-tech' toilet, of course, I was very very eager to try out the 'new hi-tech' toilet!!! But after reading the long list of instructions with 13 buttons to attend to, I had to abort the idea because I could not hold on any longer!

Don't worry, tonight I'm going back for my second cell group meeting, must try tonight...heeeehee....to be continued....7.50p.m.!

10.59p.m., hi I'm back. I tried it finally, how wonderful, I feel good cos it's like giving your bottom a good spa(wash-cum-water massage) after doing your *%^&$#@*&^! It can be very soothing if you have all the time in the world to enjoy it. Now, I understand why people are willing to spend RM75 per month for this special 'spa' service!

So, my advice is that you must be ready to sacrifice lots of time to seek and learn unlimited new knowledge as you know Knowledge is Power. At the same time, you must remember that Knowlege in Hibernation is Inhibition! Finally, what is really most important is that Knowledge in Action is Wealth!

Queensbay mall - An Exhibition from Beijing!

When I attended a seminar two Fridays ago, we were told that the presenter had taken ill suddenly. Since it was cancelled, so I decided to drop by at Queensbay mall with Monica (haven't been there since the beginning of this year). The followings described my stroll at Queensbay mall, later I went to Sungai Dua for a light meal.

What did I see at the main entrance?
I could see several big beautiful Christmas trees and the dangling decorations at the ceiling thus setting the feeling of Christmas mood all around!

What attracted my attention?
An exhibition by performers from Beijing!

1) For the first performer, he took out a slab of rubber-like brown sugar, then shaped it into a figurine by blowing air gently through a thin thread-like tube......cool, eh? He told me it could be eaten. Yak!...I wouldn't want to eat it with all his saliva embedded in it! His charge per figurine? RM10!

2) The second performer was all dressed up in typical full Chinese costume. He was seen prancing away, singing and telling story at the same time. His animated narration was accompanied by 'self-producing' classical 'music' that went in tandem with the flow of his story (he didn't use any pre-recorded tape/CD). We were invited to watch the legendary story by peeping at the holes of the big box that was displayed by his side for RM5 per show!

3) The third performer was not around to demonstrate his skill at dough sculpturing, but the various sets of his works were well displayed. They were done so intricately and delicately to the minute details. Some of the sets were priced as high as RM25 000 per set!

Saw a creative Christmas tree at a gift shop?
All lighted up in blue, no green leaves but is enclosed by a golden casing that looks more like a tower? I don't think you are able to 'dress up' this christmas tree!

What's so special at Chia Chia cafe (at Sungai Dua) that attracted my eyes?
Not the food! But the little ash tray on the table that caught my eyes! The recycled tin can was so cleverly cut into strips, then neatly woven (the sides of a recycled tin can) and finally mounted on a piece of wood......so cheap, so original....n.....cute too!!!!!!!

A Ballet Performance By Special Dancers!

I've just received (through email) a video clip showing a beautiful touching ballet dance of a different kind. Though physically challenged, both dancers were undaunted by it, instead, they put up superb expressions of their passion, sentiment, tenderness, faith, courage and strength that moved the audience to tearsssss........slowly my eyes were brimming with tears tooo......luckily no one was around! They proved it to us that they were able to do it despite their physical constraint.

Being passionate about ballet, I know that you would definitively like this performance very much, so I've added this video clip in your collection of ballet paraphernalia.

The saying is ‘cash is king’ when a recession hits and the economy slows down. The money is available for emergencies such as job lost or to buy investments at bargain prices.

We should not be completely inactive, we could actively pursue bargain funds or bonds.

2. Position Your Portfolio To Rise When Economies Fall
Many fund managers and investors are investing in companies that are felt to be better positioned during volatile times. For example, Prudential Fund Management Bhd prefers larger companies with strong balance sheets, significant cash holdings as well as companies that appear capable of maintaining a stable dividend policy. The fund company is looking at companies that serve domestic demand in countries like China and Indonesia.

3. Start Buying
According to Prudential, Asia is now trading at a low level with price-to-book ratio of 1.1x, which was last seen during the financial crisis of 1992 and 1988. Asia’s dividend yields stand at 4.8%. If you believe the long-term outlook for Asia is strong, can stomach further volatility then why not do as Soros and Buffet have been doing? Shieh Nee's 'Family of Piggies' is finally reunited!

This 'Family of Piggies' is symbolic of your first love. They were especially bought for you (JJian knew that you loved these cute piggies very much) and they were brought together as a happy family!

When you left for Australia for further studies, you could only bring Baby piggy along with you. Papa piggy was left under the custody of JJian and Mama piggy was left behind for Annie to be cared for. Thus these family members of piggies were separated for a few years.

The little one is now back in Penang with Papa piggy(went to KL with JJian, later came back to Penang) and Mama piggy. They looked kind of sad as though something was missing - perhaps lonely without you and JJian to play with ?

SNee, I'm glad that this 'family' of yours is finally brought together and happily reunited with your first ex-beau! JJian came for them recently and took them back to KL. He will take good care of them for you ! To him, they are his most memorable mementoes which are dear to his heart! When he's done with his research pursuits, he will try to write your first love story narrated through his heart ( thank you JJian, take your time, there's no hurry)!

Your sister has her own collection of pinky 'Piggy Family' too. Look at Papa piggy's body which has a slim rectangular-shaped body(sometimes serves as her pillow too)! Oh my, look at Mama piggy's body size which is full and rounded while Baby piggy's size is still very small- not grown up yet?

Introducing the latest collection of Orange Moriji family (limited designer edition range from the gift shop-Action City in KL) from your cousin, SYee! Notice that the collection is not completed yet, as Mama Moriji is still missing! What about the little red odd one (apple range - morengo)? Well, he's still lost without his family, for the moment, he has to squat with the Moriji family until his own family is found.

Cheah Family Get-together

During the recent Hari Raya holidays, the Cheah family members met for the traditional get-together. Mum and Annie couldn't make it for the lunch as we had to visit your Grandpa and Grandma.

By the way where was Dad? Well,he was busy snapping photos! Uncle Jin and his family couldn't make it too.

RGBC Penang - Down Memory Lane!

Finally on 12 October, I took a bold step to visit one of your former churches - Reservoir Garden Baptish Church, Penang. I'm glad that I made the visit.

Rev.Koe Choon Huan, spoke of Death for his sermon on that day! Of course, I was attracted to the topic and I did learn a lot from him, that :-

"Tomorrow is not promised to anyone, young or old alike, and today might be your last chance to hold your loved one tight.

So if you're waiting for tomorrow, why not do it all today?

For if tomorrow never comes, you will surely regret the day, that you didn't take the extra time for a smile or hug or kiss.

And you're surely too busy to grant someone, what turned out to be their last wish.

So hold your loved ones close today and whisper in their ear. Tell them how much you love them and that you'll always hold them dear.

Take the time to say "I'm sorry', 'Please forgive me', 'Thank you', or 'It's okay', and if tomorrow never comes, you'll have no regrets about today."

This really rings a bell when I thought of you!

Even though we didn't understand what was written on it (full of technical terms) but we knew that it meant a lot to you. The finished writing was published finally on 02/01/2008! But you were not in any mood to talk about it at all!

Even though the article was (published) two weeks prior to your passing, you were too sick to take note of it and we felt sad that we didn't have the opportunity to get the book and to let you hold it and browse it through. Family Funtime With The Big Bear!

Recently your Cousin SYee received the biggest teddy bear (as her birthday gift) that I had never seen before during my younger days.

Wanna guess? Received from whom? Of course - her latest beau!

It's a huge bear, bigger than I am, and kind of heavy too! It costs about RM700 and he wears a little cute T-shirt that read 'The Great Bear'. I feel so envious when compared it to my little palm-sized old-looking teddy bear that I received when I was a young girl! You are such a lucky girl!

Seen here sitting lonely by himself on the sofa when everybody else is too busy to play with him.

The birthday girl's brother is his constant companion or rather his regular 'punching bag' whenever he gets into a tantrum.....I wonder?

The small little boy seemed to be able to carry such a huge teddy with ease? Don't be tricked by it as his mum was supporting the bottom of the big bear (hiding at the back)!

Ooops! Over here I had to struggle to hold him up without any other support. Seemed to have strangled him by 'accident' - my apology as this was my first experience in handling such a big heavy teddy!

Getting a loving embrace from The Great Bear!

Cousin Fei and Cousin Yuan were having fun wrestling with the big fellow! It was full of fun - punching, bending his arms and legs!

Now Cousin Shawn(Fei's second brother) has joined in the leg and arm wrestling!

A lovely candid pose when your cousin nestled comfortably on him - treating that fellow like a cushion bed eh? ......so relaxing...a lovely place to unwind!

Cousin Shawn seemed to be having a bear-to-boy talk! He looked so serious! Are you thinking of getting him a pair of matching pants....he looks kind of bare...ha....ha?

Look at Aunty PSee (Cousin Fei's mum) accidentally strangling him while trying to pull him higher up the couch!

Uncle PKai (Cousin Fei's Dad) felt contented by just touching his furly chest.

Both Mum and daughter cuddling him lovingly before they left home for Kuala Lumpur!

Another lovely pose in the comfort of the arms.....oooops....sorry..... the legs of The Great Bear?

Still playing with the big bear-not enough of it yet cos she does not have any more big bear playtime when they go back to Kuala Lumpur!

This is Cousin Liang (Fei's elder brother) who has grown into a lovely teenage boy who felt comfortable by just leaning against him as support!

Mother and daughter are still at it...ti tou kau pun (to play until they're fully satisfied)!

So much attention was given to The Great Bear that Mr.Bean's teddy bear was neglected. Poor thing, Cousin Yuan had to console him!

Finally, here's the sweet pretty birthday girl having having a tete-a-tete with Cousin Liang whom she had not seen for few months.

ATI ASIA - It's Bread-Making Fun Time - Third Session!

For the third session, the teachers learned how to bake fanciful bread and wholemeal bread.

For this 'amateur' group of teachers, they learned how to cut the fat into the flour. Next, they toss it in the flour until well coated, and then rub it with fingertips to form a breadcrumb consistency.

The other group of 'green horn' teachers were engrossed in making a well in the centre of the mixing bowl and then getting ready to pour in the castor sugar and egg gradually into the well.

Come, join me! You know, it's kind of fun kneading and 'play, play' with the dough to form a smooth paste!

Chef Chan showed us how to pleat the dough into different fanciful shapes.

Another example of a dough that was skilfully folded into a crescent shape.

Wanna try my first-time freshly baked bread? This's my first and last 'master-piece' you know! No try now no try next time....ha..ha..ha!

ATI ASIA - It's Eating Fun Time - Second Session!

We're back for the second session. For this round, ATI ASIA invited Chef Khairi from Collata chocolate company, assisted by Miss Louise Tan (Sales Representative from BGS Trading), to give us a demonstration on cake baking.

This is Chef Chan introducing Chef Khairi and Miss Louise Tan. A short introduction on Chef Khairi was given, and we were later informed that he formerly worked for Secret Recipes!

Look at the eager group of ATI ASIA students who were busy 'uploading' lots of baking tips. The only 'thorn' among the roses is Khoo Chee Keong who is Chef Chan's student and also his assistant for Session 1 and Session 3 baking activities.

Seen here are Mum's colleagues who were very excited to learn the two new cake recipes from Chef Khairi!

Of course, they are Mum's lovely animated students who were eagerly waiting to savour a bite of the cakes!

Chef Khairi explaining to us how to make a good base (a mixture of Marie biscuits, Anchor unsalted butter, rolled oats and almond ribs) for the Colatta Marble Cheese Cake.

We were shown how to form attractive creative patterns on the surface of the cheese cake before sending it for 'water' baking later on! Looks good? Well, it really tasted 'yummylicious' when baked!

Over here, the jovial Chef showed us the correct techniques of making 'decorative fencing' (made from white and black Collata chocolates) for the Dark Chocolate Moist Cake recipe.

Here we are, the 'decorative fencing' were broken into pieces. Then, he lined them around the edges of the baked moist chocolate cake before topping it with fruits for a more attractive finishing.

These are examples of the various types of cookies that can be made from Collata chocolates....hmmmm...can't wait to bite them! But alas, these cookies were only shown on posters on that day!

The session ended with everyone mingling around, have fun joking with each other, busy buying Collata chocolates, and of course enjoying and eating the two baked cakes!

Australia through my lens - A Wonderful Dream realized!

SNee, today 31 August means a lot to me - it's not only a great day for all Malaysians to celebrate their Independence Day but also a special day when you received your scroll from the University of New South Wales!

We are so proud of you for you had finally graduated!

I have just received this special essay sent by Dr.Lesley Land. This essay was written by you during your first year at the university and it won a prize. It mirrors your dreams, your struggles, your courage, your challenges and your rich experiences in a foreign land. Thank you for sharing this memorable 'internal journey' of yours with us. A Wonderful Dream realized …

Based on the theme, Australia through my lens!

The best thing that had ever happened in my life was getting a scholarship to study in UNSW. Coming from a not-so-well-off family background, this opportunity was indeed a dream come true. But, that is just the beginning; here is how my story goes…

On my day of departure from home (Malaysia), practically the whole village gave me a wonderful farewell in the air-port, as this is my first time on a plane and also the first person in the family to have the opportunity to study abroad. I was indeed flattered. Being a mountain beetle, I nervously boarded the plane after asking for directions several times. Shortly after the plane took-off, my heart started to pound, as I knew that I would be away from home, away from my love-ones. However, on the other hand, I can’t wait to land on this place called “Sydney", I can’t wait to see the Harbour bridge and the opera house. I have seen those majestic buildings on postcards, books, documentaries but having the chance to see them in real was just awesome!

I couldn’t get to sleep in the air- plane, as I didn’t know that I could adjust my seat. I sat as straight as a log for almost seven hours. Upon arrival, I was greeted by my friends, who are now my housemates. We drove past the harbour bridge. O my goodness! Tears started to flood my dark-circled eyes as I realize that I was actually going past what I had seen in the cartoon “Finding Nemo”, I was even more overwhelmed when I saw the opera house standing majestically in the midst of the sea.

I started enjoying the food and ate for the sake of eating, gelato was my all time favourite, I continued to indulge in different Aussie food till I was stuffed to the brim. I gained weight in no time.

I waited eagerly for the semester to start. I attended the orientation sessions and made some friends over the first few weeks. Being so spoon-fed back home, I was actually surprised that we are supposed to do everything, and indeed everything ourselves, including choosing the right courses and having the right prerequisites. Coming from a background where courses and schedule are all planned out for me, I was very lost during enrolment. Thankfully, some advisors gently gave me some useful advice about workload and time management which affected me tremendously.

As the session started, I was very excited. In the meantime, I had to find myself a part–time job as my scholarship covers my tuition fees but not my living expenses. My first job was in a café owned by a local lady. I was embarrassed to the core when I pronounce words wrongly, instead of chicken snigzel I pronounced as chicken “sprit-zle”, and instead of “sa – mon” I pronounced it as “ sal – mon”. I worked hard and learn that it is a skill and a challenge indeed to manage both studies and work concurrently. However, given my circumstances, I didn’t have a choice but to be resilient and take my work in a café as a form of exercise, while coping with the mid-session workload was hellish, I miraculously made it through.

Exam periods are unusual periods. Practically everyone starts to “tune” themselves with book, library seats are more easily filled up than usual. I always have difficulties tuning into such a sedentary lifestyle as my everyday life was very much a hectic one with work and studies going on hand-in-hand. However, I think this period of time is the best time ever that one could really learn and re-learn or even, discover new things in their individual courses.

Holiday seasons! They are the best! I would just catch up with friends, family and or even treat myself with various different things such as getting myself a nice new outfit, or a new book, or even a sumptuous meal. I would do things that I never get a chance to do such as wondering around the city, loafing around just for the sake of learning more about this new country and also to have fun.

Last but not least, it is the best experience ever to be in Sydney, although life gets tougher every day.

Goodbye Adrian Sudbury! Your Legacy and Mission will Live On !

By now, you would have met Adrian Sudbury! He joined you at the beautiful shore in the early hours on 20 August 2008!

You'll be wondering how I got to know him? Well, it was in February 2008, there were nights when I couldn't sleep, so I surfed the net and I chanced upon Adrian's internet diary that chronicled his fights with an aggressive cancer of the blood cells. From then onwards, I kept on reading his blog because what he went through reflected similar 'battles' of yours- I could 'see' and sense your fights coming alive again through his fights - sad that both of you lost your fights to cancer eventually, you were 24 then (22/1) and he was 27 (20/8) in 2008!

When I read his blog on 7 and 12 August on these pecularities ...I had this overwhelming sense of panic and deep breathing. It was so strange...dotted with incidents of dropping off to sleep, random drowsiness, disorientation and distraction... becoming increasingly challenging to construct...drugs are constantly put into my body throughout the day...on a mixture of painkillers, anti-anxiety and anti-sickness drugs, I was gripped with great fear! You displayed similar characteristics before your passing! You even asked for iced water like he did for your last few days! I knew that his days were drawing nearer!

Adrian mentioned that "I worry more about how my family and friends will cope with my death than facing it myself." It's very true that we find it very very difficult to cope with the death of loved ones. Even though you have left us for the past 7 months, the pang of pain is still raw!

Adrian, I admire your courage. Through your blog (his blog won an award - Best Health Blog 2007), I get an insight into the working mind of a person who knows that he/she is going to leave the world for good - I could feel her/his fears, anger, reservations, dreams, etc.... In the midst of enduring great pains and and facing death, you did not sulk or drown in sorrow or self-pity but resolved to do something great to save the lives of other people who face similar situations.

The following quotes show the determination of your fighting spirit to champion for the goodness of mankind:-

"But I have one more mission - I want to raise awareness about bone marrow donation."

"There are 7,000 people waiting for one, but people don't realise that these days becoming a donor is not much different to giving blood."

"If in the time I've got left I can get more people to give life to others by becoming a bone marrow donor then I'll feel my life has been worth something."

May your eternal life be blessed and blissful always! We miss both of you very much!

Annie, Uncle CYeong, Aunty Serina and myself bought these flowers and we arranged them especially to grace your niche at Western Road Memorial a few months ago before the plaque is done!

My dear SNee,

I've been praying very hard to see you in my dream since your passing. Then you came! You tapped me on the shoulder, and when I turned around, you just smiled at me and then faded away in an ocean of bright lights!

I stretched out my hands to reach you and to embrace you but you faded away so quickly. I wanted very much to hear your lovely voice again but alas I was not able to do anything - just watching you go helplessly! You just tap and go - it was the shortest visit that you've ever made! I couldn't sleep after that.

Then, I went through some of your stuff and found this book, The Power of a Praying Wife by Stormie Omartian. I just wonder why did an unmarried teenager purchase such a book meant for a married woman - was the book bought meant for me, I wonder again? When I flipped through the book, there are several pencil markings indicated on certain chapters and I started reading and I am still reading it.

After finished reading the Foreword on The Power, I took note of the following key words that made me feel at peace - 'You and I both know that prayer works...Seeing answers to your prayers can take time...be patient to persevere and wait for God to heal...don't worry...Leave it in His hands! Slowly I drifted back into slumberland! Thank you SNee for buying the book - it helps me to cope with grief and the healing process!

University AIMST - Introducing CCTeik's University - Where ? At our hometown - Sungai Petani!

My Dear SNee,

I've another piece of good news to share with you - CYee's brother, CTeik has enrolled on a course at the above university - our very first at our hometown!

Below is a short write-up on the university by Uncle KCheng :-

The RM500mil AIMST University (previously known as Asian Institute of Medicine, Science and Technology) campus, the brainchild of MIC president Datuk Seri Samy Vellu, was mooted in 1996.

The state-of-the-art, self-contained campus on a 92ha site in Semeling, Sungai Petani, can accommodate 7,000 students.

There are five hostel blocks, an administrative block, lecture halls, sports stadium, Olympic-size swimming pool, gymnasium and a multipurpose hall at the university, which is situated at the foothill of Gunung Jerai.

CTeik is taking the Foundation Science program, currently staying in the hostel during the weekdays and only coming back to Penang for the weekends. The Foundation is a one year program and intend for students to pursue a degree level in Science (Engineering, IT, or Technology).

SNee, Uncle KCheng captured a few lovely features of the university and we would like to share them with you.

This is the impression of CTeik's university - UNIVERSITY AIMST (Asian Institute of Medicine, Science and Technology). We accompanied CTeik back to his university at night last Saturday and the whole university was painted by lights, in conjunction with the university official opening by the Prime Minister on the following day. Very impressive infrastructure, conductive environment and fresh air as the university is at the foothills of picturesque Gunung Jerai (Kedah).

I'm happy to share with you - your cousin brother, CCYee has "pit giap, liao" (this is Penang Hokkien dialect which means 'graduated') with a Bachelor degree in Applied Science (Honours) (Applied Physics) from USM last Saturday, August 16, 2008.

Look at him - feeling great on cloud nine and standing tall with an entourage of well-wishers from family members!

All smiles from proud grandma, parents, brother and they were graced with bouquets of lovely flowers, teddy bears and a very special delicately hand-crafted graduation card done by Annie!

Your cousin sister, Helen, has grown into a lovely girl! Look at her - tall, lanky and demure! This photo has a special appeal in my heart - standing in a dainty pose, smilingly snapping her own photo in front of a seemingly look-like antique window (it's not a real window but actually it's just a piece of intricate window-frame that has been superimposed on a piece of mirror!) She looks unpretentious and being caught in a pensive moment of sheer joy! Any consideration to send this photo for a competition?

1 Aug 2008 was a memorable day for your cousin sister - she received two awards from SGGS!

She does not only excel in academic achievements but she is also good at playing musical instruments like the piano and violin. Now she has added gamelan to her list! SNee,

You have always wanted me to know Him and I find that He does not make sense at times. However, in the midst of senseless divine understanding, Sister Tay Siu Bi is always by my side and stays with me through my difficult walk with Him. On a off, she would sms words of comforts and short prayers to console a griefing soul. That helps a lot. She has just sent me a stack of prayer cards. The following prayer is my most favourite one.

Dear Heavenly Father,

I pray that I repossess the blessings I have lost.

I shall be what God plans for me to become.

Not any man, any situation, any condition, any spirit to undermine

God's intentions for me.

I will fulfill my day.

I shall not be cut short.

I receive fresh air for fresh exploits.

I break out of all limitations in my life, my family, my finances and my mission.

Let nothing have the ability to hold me back; not man, not woman nor spirit.

Penang Hokkien Poems/Songs/Rhymes - One by One N Modern Youngsters

Hi SNee,

This simple rhyme, One by One, sung by Mr.Jonny Chee (the author of A Tapestry of Baba Poetry) is quite amusing. According to him, children may find it enjoyable to recite the first six lines. They can also be encouraged to compose their own lines from 'seven by seven...' to 'ten by ten...'.

By the way, this rhyme could be interpreted as indirectly prompting the kids to realise what a true hero should be - brave, persevering, noble, helpful and whatever good qualities they deem befitting a hero.

F0r the next rhyme on Modern Youngsters, the author observes that the days of servile obedience and unquestioned respect are over. Young blood runs hot. The youngsters want to do things their way. But as they go through life, we hope that they will learn from mistakes and experience, which will lead them on to self-discovery and realisation, thereby transforming their life into a successful and meaningful one.

Hi SNee,
We miss you very much, how we wish you are here now to teach us mandarin. With 6 days to Beijing Olympic, the mandarin mania is getting heated up uproariously. Over here, we are just as excited to learn mandarin too. So, last month, for our staff development training, we invited Mr.Ray Hung, the Chief consultant of Millennium Rich Technology,Taiwan, and accompanied by Angeline and Chris, to give us a demonstration on e-mandarin.

What a Laughing Stock!

Hi SNee,

While I was browsing through your collection of World Wide Jokes (a compilation from the Net), I came upon this joke that I find amusing. Here it goes!

Once upon a time, there lived a man who had a passion for baked beans. He loved them, but they always had an embarrassing reaction on him. One day, he met a girl and fell in love. When it was apparent that they would marry, he made the supreme sacrifice to give up beans. Shortly after that they were married.

A few months later, on the way home from work, his car broke down and since they lived in the country, he called his wife and told her that he would be late because ha had to walk. On the way home, he passed a small cafe and the wonderful aroma of baked beans overwhelmed him.

Since he still had several miles to walk, he figured he could walk off any smelly effects before he got home. So he went in and ordered, and before leaving had three extra large helpings of baked beans. All the way home, he putt-putted and putt-putted. By the time he arrived home he felt reasonably safe.

His wife met him at the door and seemed somewhat excited. She exclaimed, 'Darling, I have the most wonderful surprise for you for dinner tonight!'

She put a blindfold on him, and led him to his chair at the head of the table and made him promise not to peek. At this point, he was beginning to feel another one coming on. Just as his wife was about to remove the blindfold, the telephone rang. While she was gone, he seized the opportunity. He shifted his weight to one leg and let go. It was not only loud, but ripe as a rotten egg. He had a hard time breathing, so he felt for his napkin and fanned the air about him.

He had just started to feel better, when another urge came on. He raised his leg and putted again, this time it sounded like a diesel engine! Then he felt another urge coming, he shifted his weight to his other leg and let go. While keeping an ear tuned in on the conversation in the hall-way, and keeping his promise of staying blindfolded, he carried on farting and fanning each time with his napkin for another few more rounds before it stopped finally.

When he heard the phone farewells being uttered, he neatly laid his napkin on his lap and folded his hands on top of it. Smiling contentedly, he was the picture of innocence when his wife walked in. Apologizing for taking so long, she asked if he had peeked at the dinner table. After assuring her he had not peeked, she removed the blindfold and yelled, 'Surprise!'

To his shock and horror, there were twelve dinner guests already seated around the table for his surprise birthday party.

A merry heart is good medicine,
but a broken spirit dries up the bones.
